Biaggi gets first official run on RSV4

Max Biaggi completed his first official run-out on the Aprilia RSV4 in preparation for the 2009 Superbike season. It happened last week at the splendid Portimao circuit in Portugal, where the final round of the 2008 season was held. Max carried out two busy days of testing, completing a total of 110 laps, 50 on Tuesday with a best time of 1m45.48s and 60 on Wednesday with a 1m44.12s lap.

"The Portimao test was my first real one with the Aprilia" declared Biaggi, "after trying out the bike for the first time last month at Valencia. Here we did a lot of work to try and find a good starting-point which will then help us to adapt the bike to the various circuits of the next tests and the races in the future. There are still a few problems to be resolved but we're only at the beginning and the bike is still in its development phase. I am however quite pleased with the work we have done, we accumulated a lot of data that will be useful for the engineers to produce new components to help the RSV4 develop. We have to find out how and where to improve and then step by step we will have a package that is competitive right from the first races, but we're going to have to roll our sleeves up to do this obviously. I'm really happy to work with this team, we have already established a great feeling and the right working method. It feels like I've returned home after several years".

Max Biaggi made a promising start to his time with the Aprilia World Superbike team as he lapped consistently quicker than he did with Sterilgarda Ducati on the Portimao race weekend.

Conducting his first proper test aboard the new RSV-4, Biaggi scored the third best lap on the second day of testing in Portugal with a time of 1min 44.1secs – six tenths better than his best race lap on the Ducati.

One half of a high-profile rider line-up that also includes MotoGP refugee Shinya Nakano, Biaggi got two days on the bike and was impressed with Aprilia's immediate competitiveness. He also pronounced himself happy with the surroundings in his new team.







"The second and last day of the Portimao test has now finished," Biaggi wrote on his official website. "The two days have been very important for us, given that we have a completely new bike.

"The impression is that the indications already given have been accurate, and now we have to wait for the next test in December. The technicians have time to make the necessary modifications.

"I've got a good feeling with the guys in the team and we're motivated to do well. I can't wait to get back on the bike again, but unfortunately I've got to wait a month. I'll conclude by saying that I'm happy to be with this team and to be working with Aprilia."
